You’ve tried the parenting self-help books, scoured Google for answers, and spent more time in parenting Facebook groups than you’d like to admit. Your kid is still doing the thing and nothing you do is working. You’re tired!

Our parent coaches work with you to equip you with the tools you need to navigate your child’s behaviors. You can experience the confidence that comes with parenting a child who is emotionally regulated, listens to you, and understands your family rules.

Therapy for Children & Teens

Your child is experiencing something and you’re not quite sure how to help them. When kids are going through something, they might get stomach aches before school, act out at home, withdraw from others, or behave differently from how they did in the past. Or your child is disorganized, their grades are dropping, and you suspect ADHD is the culprit.

Our child therapists work with you and your kid to understand what is behind the behaviors and equip them with strategies for navigating their worlds.

  • The decision to see a therapist or psychologist is deeply personal and varies from person to person. Some people start therapy for help navigating a major life event like a divorce or to get support after experiencing a traumatic experience. Other people start seeing a therapist because there is an area of life that is becoming harder to manage (for example, a difficult work environment or an impending breakup). Mental health difficulties like anxiety, depression, or panic attacks are also a common reason people seek out therapy.

  • When you’ve had a negative experience with therapy it can be hard to give it another chance. You might find yourself wondering “Why would I go through all the work of meeting a new therapist and it's just as unhelpful as the last time?” We get that and we’ve even had a few of those experiences ourselves when finding our own therapists.

    One of the most important elements of successful therapy is the “fit” between therapist and client. The therapist-client relationship is essential for a successful therapy experience. At Park Slope Therapy, we know how important it is for you to find a therapist who gets you and with whom you can build a strong working relationship.

  • The length of therapy is dependent on a few different factors. Specifically, the length of therapy depends on the problem, the treatment, and therapist/client preference.

    Some clients start therapy with a specific problem they want to address and want to work solely on addressing that issue with a more structured approach to treatment. This type of therapy can last anywhere from a few weeks to six months.

    Other clients begin therapy for help with one or more general areas of their life and once those problems are resolved, they stay in therapy to work on additional areas of their life. In this scenario, the length of therapy is up to the client and the therapist to decide. A client might decide to stay with a therapist for a year+ if they have a strong therapeutic relationship with their therapist and are experiencing personal growth. Some of us have been with our own personal therapists for many years. This isn’t because of lack of progress but because we feel deeply known and understood by our therapists and continually experience personal growth.

    Whether your therapy lasts three months or three years, our goal as therapists is to equip you with the tools you need to make meaningful change in your life and grow through your relationship with us.

  • Selecting a therapist is an important decision. You'll want to find someone you feel comfortable with and whose approach to therapy is a good match for you. Be sure to interview more than one person and ask a lot of questions. Also, be honest about your needs and seek out a therapist who can best support you. Finally, consider location if you are doing in-person therapy instead of telehealth. Most of our clients meet with us weekly for sessions, so it's important to select a therapist whose office location is convenient for you.

  • Currently, our therapists are conducting sessions virtually via phone or video conferencing. We also offer in-person sessions for children in Brooklyn. We’ll provide the address when you book your appointment.

  • It's easy to get started. Use our online scheduler to find a time to chat with our Client Coordinator. Our Client Coordinator will call you to help you select a therapist and schedule your first appointment. After your initial appointment, you and your therapist will decide on an ongoing time for your sessions.

  • Yes! Currently all of our therapists offer therapy sessions via phone or video conferencing. You can also select in-person therapy for children at our office in Brooklyn.

  • We require 24 hours notice for cancelling or rescheduling appointments. Your therapist will work with you to find a regularly recurring session time that works for you. However, we understand that things happen and sometimes you might need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. We ask that you do this within 24 hours of your appointment time in order to avoid a cancellation fee.

  • Therapy with a licensed therapist ranges from $225-$450 for individual therapy, $330-$500 for couples therapy, and $250-$500 for kids and family therapy. Therapy with a clinical intern is $125/session for individual therapy.

  • We are out-of-network providers with insurance companies. This means we do not accept insurance directly at our practice, however, we provide you with the paperwork you need to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits. Many insurance companies provide anywhere from 50%-80% reimbursement for out-of-network therapy and our billing team can help with navigating your insurance reimbursement process.

  • Let us know you're interested in a low-fee session when you complete your online form. Our client coordinator will discuss options with you and help you schedule a low-fee session.
